Honor launches “world’s thinnest” foldable

Honor has just announced the launch of the Magic V5, a smartphone that folds sideways and is described as the “world’s thinnest”. This model measures 8.8mm when closed, which beats the 8.9mm of the Oppo Find N5. It’s important to note that these dimensions do not take into account the height produced by the rear camera and only apply to the white model, with the other versions measuring closer to 9mm due to the vegan finish and the fiber used.

The triple camera module on the rear increases the overall thickness of the model. In terms of specifications, this camera configuration allows for sensors with higher resolutions and faster apertures in almost all parameters.

The Verge reports that the unfolded phone is just 4.1mm thick, 0.1mm less than Oppo's rival, but still far from the Huawei Mate XT's 3.6mm. Next week, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which will further fuel this battle of millimeters for the thinnest models. Honor hasn't said so publicly, but with a weight of 217 grams, the Magic V5 is also the lightest foldable, on par with Vivo's X Fold 5.

Inside, this model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16 GB of RAM and a 5820 mAh battery, with 120 Hz LTPO OLED displays, wireless charging and IP58 and IP59 certifications for dust and water resistance.

The Honor Magic V5 is available in China and should arrive “soon” in the rest of the world
